   MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 1847
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0939 PM CDT FRI OCT 10 2014

AREAS AFFECTED...N-CNTRL TX / SRN OK /WRN AR

   CONCERNING...SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 525...526...

   VALID 110239Z - 110345Z

THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH
   525...526...CONTINUES.

SUMMARY...AN ISOLATED SEVERE WEATHER THREAT IS EXPECTED TO PERSIST
BEYOND 03Z. THE GREATEST RISK FOR MORE SUSTAINED STORM ACTIVITY WILL
EXIST ACROSS PORTIONS OF N-CNTRL TX WHERE A NEW WATCH WILL BE ISSUED
   SHORTLY.

DISCUSSION...AS OF 0230Z...RADAR IMAGERY INDICATED A COUPLE OF
STRONG TO SEVERE STORMS SITUATED ALONG A SWD-MOVING COLD FRONT OVER
COMANCHE AND ERATH COUNTIES IN N-CNTRL TX. FARTHER TO THE N...A
   N-S-ORIENTED BAND OF POST-FRONTAL TSTMS HAS INTENSIFIED...NAMELY
OVER WISE COUNTY AND EXTRAPOLATION OF THIS ACTIVITY TAKES IT NEAR TO
THE FRONT TO THE NORTHEAST OF THE METROPLEX WITHIN THE NEXT COUPLE
   OF HOURS.

BOTH FORCING FOR ASCENT AND VERTICAL SHEAR WILL CONTINUE TO PROMOTE
A FAVORABLE BACKGROUND ENVIRONMENT FOR THE SUSTENANCE OF THE ONGOING
STORMS. HOWEVER...AS THE BOUNDARY LAYER CONTINUES TO COOL...EXPECT
INSTABILITY TO DIMINISH WHICH MAY TEMPER UPDRAFT VIGOR. THE CAVEAT
TO THIS SCENARIO IS IF A SUFFICIENT COLD POOL CAN BECOME ESTABLISHED
WITH THE ONGOING STORMS TO SUPPORT FORWARD PROPAGATION AND PERHAPS
SOME INCREASING THREAT FOR DAMAGING WINDS. THIS PROCESS MAY BE
TAKING PLACE WITH A RECENT WIND GUST TO 59 MPH AT BROWNWOOD TX. AS
SUCH...A NEW WATCH WILL BE ISSUED FOR PARTS OF N-CNTRL TX.
