   MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 1880
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0545 PM CDT MON OCT 13 2014

AREAS AFFECTED...SERN PARTS OF LA AND MS

   CONCERNING...TORNADO WATCH 538...

   VALID 132245Z - 140015Z

THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR TORNADO WATCH 538 CONTINUES.

SUMMARY...THE THREAT FOR DAMAGING STRAIGHT LINE WINDS AND TORNADOES
   CONTINUES ACROSS THE WATCH AREA.

DISCUSSION...MULTIPLE PRE-FRONTAL CONFLUENCE CONVECTIVE BANDS WERE
OBSERVED AS OF 2230Z OVER SERN LA WITH ADDITIONAL MORE DISCRETE
STORMS PRESENT ACROSS FAR SERN MS. THE AMBIENT AIR MASS REMAINS WARM
AND QUITE MOIST WITH RAP-BASED GUIDANCE SUGGESTING MLCAPE OF
1000-2000 J/KG. WHEN COUPLED WITH A KINEMATIC ENVIRONMENT FEATURING
A VERTICALLY VEERING WIND PROFILE WITH MODEST AMOUNTS OF LOW-LEVEL
AND DEEP-LAYER SHEAR...THE SETUP WILL REMAIN SUPPORTIVE OF EMBEDDED
SUPERCELLS AND BOWING LINE SEGMENTS CAPABLE OF MAINLY DAMAGING WINDS
   AND ISOLATED TORNADOES.

THROUGH 00Z...RADAR DATA SUGGEST THAT A HIGHER-PROBABILITY RISK FOR
PRIMARILY DAMAGING WINDS WILL SPREAD FROM WASHINGTON AND ST. TAMMANY
PARISHES INTO SERN MS...MAINLY S OF PIB. OTHERWISE...EXPECT THE
GREATEST POTENTIAL FOR A TORNADO OR TWO TO EXIST WITH THE MORE
DISCRETE STORMS WHICH SHOULD CONTINUE TO DEVELOP FARTHER TO THE E
   OVER FAR SERN MS.
