   MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 1972
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   1222 PM CST WED DEC 10 2014

AREAS AFFECTED...WRN AND NRN MAINE...NRN NH

   CONCERNING...FREEZING RAIN

   VALID 101822Z - 102215Z

SUMMARY...FREEZING RAIN IS EXPECTED TO OCCUR ACROSS PARTS OF NRN NH
EXTENDING NEWD ACROSS WRN AND NRN MAINE. FREEZING RAIN RATES SHOULD
REACH A TENTH OF AN INCH PER HOUR IN SOME AREAS.

DISCUSSION...AN UPPER-LEVEL LOW NEAR NEW YORK CITY WILL MOVE SLOWLY
NWD THIS AFTERNOON AS A SFC LOW OFFSHORE FROM MAINE DEEPENS AND
MOVES TOWARD THE COAST. STRONG WARM ADVECTION ASSOCIATED WITH
ONSHORE FLOW IS OCCURRING ACROSS MUCH OF NEW ENGLAND. THE NAM
INITIALIZATION SHOWS AN BAND OF ENHANCED LIFT OVER SRN AND CNTRL
MAINE WHERE PERSISTENT RAINFALL IS ONGOING. SHORT-TERM MODEL
FORECASTS MOVE THIS BAND OF ASCENT NWD INTO THE MCD AREA THIS
AFTERNOON WHICH WILL LIKELY ENHANCE PRECIPITATION RATES. SFC TEMPS
IN THE LOWER ELEVATIONS ARE GENERALLY NEAR FREEZING ACROSS THE NERN
TIER OF MAINE. AS PRECIPITATION RATES INCREASE OVER THE NEXT FEW
HOURS...WET-BULBING SHOULD HELP TEMPS REMAIN STEADY. AS A
RESULT...FREEZING RAIN WILL OCCUR IN MANY AREAS THIS AFTERNOON WITH
FREEZING RAIN RATES REACHING 0.10 INCH PER HOUR IN SOME LOCATIONS.
