   MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 1989
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0459 PM CST TUE DEC 23 2014

AREAS AFFECTED...SOUTHEAST MS AND EXTREME SOUTHWEST AL

   CONCERNING...TORNADO WATCH 560...

   VALID 232259Z - 240000Z

THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR TORNADO WATCH 560 CONTINUES.

SUMMARY...POTENTIAL FOR SEVERE WEATHER INCLUDING A TORNADO THREAT IS
EXPECTED TO PERSIST UNTIL 02-03Z ACROSS SOUTHEAST MS AND ADJACENT
PORTIONS OF SOUTHWEST AL. LOCAL WFO TEMPORAL EXTENSION IS PROPOSED
FOR THIS PORTION OF WW 560.

DISCUSSION...AT 22Z...SURFACE ANALYSIS SHOWED THE WARM SECTOR
REMAINED OVER FAR SERN LA THROUGH SERN MS AND SWRN AL...WITH DEW
POINTS IN THE MID-UPPER 60S...AND AT OR ABOVE 70 ALONG THE GULF
COAST. A CONTINUED INFLUX OF MOISTURE COUPLED WITH SURFACE
TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 60S TO LOWER 70S WILL CONTRIBUTE TO
MAINTAINING A MODERATELY UNSTABLE ENVIRONMENT INTO THE EARLY
EVENING. STRONG DEEP LAYER ASCENT ALONG A STRENGTHENING SSWLY LLJ
/50 KT PER MOB WSR-88D VAD/ AND AHEAD OF A STRONG SHORTWAVE TROUGH
APPROACHING THE ARKLATEX REGION IS EXPECTED TO MAINTAIN UPSCALE
GROWTH OF A LINEAR STRUCTURE ALONG A COLD FRONT...CURRENTLY
ADVANCING EWD ACROSS SRN MS AND SERN LA.

STRONG EFFECTIVE SRH PER OBJECTIVE ANALYSES OF 300-400 M2/S2
SUPPORTS A CONTINUED TORNADO THREAT IN ADDITION TO DAMAGING WINDS.
THESE THREATS WILL BE ATTENDANT TO ANY DISCRETE STORMS IN THE WARM
SECTOR...ESPECIALLY NEAR THE WARM FRONT...AND/OR WITH STORMS ALONG
   THE COLD FRONT.
