   PUBLIC SEVERE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0520 AM CDT WED MAY 29 2013

...SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS EXPECTED OVER PARTS OF THE CENTRAL AND
SOUTHERN PLAINS THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH TONIGHT...

THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER IN NORMAN OK IS FORECASTING THE
DEVELOPMENT OF TORNADOES...LARGE HAIL...AND DAMAGING WINDS OVER
PARTS OF THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN PLAINS THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH
   TONIGHT.

THE AREAS MOST LIKELY TO EXPERIENCE THIS ACTIVITY INCLUDE

          WESTERN AND CENTRAL KANSAS
          WESTERN AND CENTRAL OKLAHOMA
NORTH TEXAS AND THE TEXAS PANHANDLE

SURROUNDING THE GREATEST RISK AREA...SEVERE STORMS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE
IN A BROAD ARC EXTENDING FROM SOUTH CENTRAL TEXAS THROUGH MUCH OF
NEBRASKA AND SOUTH DAKOTA INTO THE UPPER MISSISSIPPI VALLEY. IN
ADDITION...SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ALSO MAY OCCUR OVER PARTS OF
   PENNSYLVANIA...NEW YORK...AND NEW ENGLAND.

A STRONG JET STREAM DISTURBANCE NOW CROSSING THE SOUTHERN ROCKIES
WILL CONTINUE EAST-NORTHEAST INTO THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN PLAINS
   LATER TODAY AND TONIGHT.

THE DISTURBANCE WILL SERVE TO BROADEN AND STRENGTHEN A BAND OF
WARM...MOIST LOW-LEVEL SOUTHERLY WINDS ALREADY PRESENT OVER THE
PLAINS STATES. THE DISTURBANCE WILL ALSO STRENGTHEN UPPER-LEVEL
WINDS...AND ENCOURAGE THE DEVELOPMENT OF SUSTAINED THUNDERSTORMS
   ACROSS THE REGION.

THE COMBINATION OF INCREASING SUPPORT FOR THUNDERSTORMS...DAYTIME
HEATING...AND STRENGTHENING WINDS THROUGH THE DEPTH OF THE
ATMOSPHERE WILL CREATE AN ENVIRONMENT FAVORABLE FOR NUMEROUS STRONG
TO POSSIBLY INTENSE ROTATING THUNDERSTORMS KNOWN AS SUPERCELLS OVER
A LARGE PART OF THE PLAINS STATES. IN ADDITION TO PRODUCING VERY
LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS...THE STORMS WILL BE CAPABLE OF
TORNADOES...A FEW OF WHICH COULD BE VERY DAMAGING.

WHILE THE STRONGEST AND MOST NUMEROUS STORMS SHOULD OCCUR THIS
AFTERNOON THROUGH EARLY TONIGHT...SOME RISK FOR SEVERE WEATHER
LIKELY WILL CONTINUE INTO EARLY THURSDAY.-

STATE AND LOCAL EMERGENCY MANAGERS ARE MONITORING THIS DEVELOPING
SITUATION. THOSE IN THE THREATENED AREA ARE URGED TO REVIEW SEVERE
WEATHER SAFETY RULES AND TO LISTEN TO RADIO...TELEVISION...AND NOAA
WEATHER RADIO FOR POSSIBLE WATCHES...WARNINGS...AND STATEMENTS LATER
   TODAY.
