   TORNADO WATCH NUMBER 859

   THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A
   TORNADO WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF 
   
          NORTHEAST IOWA
          SOUTHEAST MINNESOTA
          WESTERN WISCONSIN
   
   EFFECTIVE THIS SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING FROM 540 PM UNTIL
   1100 PM CST.
   
   TORNADOES...HAIL TO 2 INCHES IN DIAMETER...THUNDERSTORM WIND GUSTS
   TO 80 MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE AREAS.
   
   THE TORNADO WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 60 STATUTE MILES
   EAST AND WEST OF A LINE FROM 60 MILES NORTHEAST OF MINNEAPOLIS
   MINNESOTA TO 35 MILES EAST SOUTHEAST OF CEDAR RAPIDS IOWA.  FOR A

   REMEMBER...A TORNADO WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR
   TORNADOES AND SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH AREA.
   PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR THREATENING
   WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS AND POSSIBLE
   WARNINGS.

   DISCUSSION...INTENSE UPPER SYSTEM WITH ASSOCIATED DEEPENING SURFACE
   LOW MOVING NEWD ACROSS SRN MN THIS EVENING.  TORNADIC SUPERCELLS
   OVER CENTRAL IA EXPECTED TO CONTINUE MOVING RAPIDLY NEWD. WITH VERY
   FAVORABLE SHEAR PROFILES THE ONLY LIMITATION AS TO HOW LONG THE
   TORNADO THREAT WILL CONTINUE IS THE LIMITED INSTABILITY.  DURING
   THE EVENING SEVERE THREAT WILL LIKELY TRANSITION INTO MORE OF A WIND
   DAMAGE CONCERN...HOWEVER TORNADOES WILL BE A CONCERN FOR AT LEAST
   FIRST PORTION OF WATCH PERIOD.
   
   AVIATION...TORNADOES AND A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL
   SURFACE AND ALOFT TO 2 INCHES. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE WIND
   GUSTS TO 70 KNOTS. A FEW CUMULONIMBI WITH MAXIMUM TOPS TO 500.
   MEAN STORM MOTION VECTOR 23045.
