   THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A
   TORNADO WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF 
   
          CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN ILLINOIS
          WESTERN INDIANA
          EAST CENTRAL MISSOURI
   
   EFFECTIVE THIS TUESDAY MORNING AND AFTERNOON FROM 1010 AM UNTIL
   500 PM CST.
   
   ...THIS IS A PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION...
   
   DESTRUCTIVE TORNADOES...LARGE HAIL TO 1.5 INCHES IN DIAMETER...
   THUNDERSTORM WIND GUSTS TO 80 MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE
   POSSIBLE IN THESE AREAS.
   
   THE TORNADO WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 100 STATUTE
   MILES NORTH AND SOUTH OF A LINE FROM 55 MILES WEST OF SAINT LOUIS
   MISSOURI TO 10 MILES SOUTHEAST OF BLOOMINGTON INDIANA. FOR A

   REMEMBER...A TORNADO WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR
   TORNADOES AND SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH AREA.
   PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR THREATENING
   WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS AND POSSIBLE
   WARNINGS.

   DISCUSSION...DEEPENING SURFACE LOW OVER SOUTHWEST MO IS FORECAST TO
   TRACK RAPIDLY NORTHEASTWARD TODAY INTO IL.  AIR MASS AHEAD OF LOW IS
   EXPECTED TO DESTABILIZE RAPIDLY...WITH WARM/MOIST AND UNSTABLE
   SURFACE AIR SPREADING NORTHWARD ACROSS THE WATCH AREA. VERTICAL
   SHEAR PROFILES WILL BE VERY FAVORABLE FOR SUPERCELLS AND THE
   POTENTIAL FOR STRONG TORNADOES.  DAMAGING WINDS ALSO APPEAR TO BE A
   SIGNIFICANT THREAT.
   
   AVIATION...TORNADOES AND A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL
   SURFACE AND ALOFT TO 1.5 INCHES. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE
   WIND GUSTS TO 70 KNOTS. A FEW CUMULONIMBI WITH MAXIMUM TOPS TO
