   SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH NUMBER 183
   NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   915 AM CDT FRI APR 14 2006
   
   THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A
   SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF 
   
          CENTRAL ILLINOIS
          WEST CENTRAL INDIANA
   
   EFFECTIVE THIS FRIDAY MORNING AND AFTERNOON FROM 915 AM UNTIL 300
   PM CDT.
   
   HAIL TO 2.5 INCHES IN DIAMETER...THUNDERSTORM WIND GUSTS TO 70
   MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE AREAS.
   
   THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 70
   STATUTE MILES NORTH AND SOUTH OF A LINE FROM 45 MILES WEST
   SOUTHWEST OF PEORIA ILLINOIS TO 35 MILES SOUTH SOUTHEAST OF
   LAFAYETTE INDIANA.  FOR A COMPLETE DEPICTION OF THE WATCH SEE THE
   ASSOCIATED WATCH OUTLINE UPDATE (WOUS64 KWNS WOU3).
   
   REMEMBER...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE
   FAVORABLE FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH
   AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR
   THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
   AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAN AND OCCASIONALLY
   DO PRODUCE TORNADOES.
   
   DISCUSSION...MCS WILL LIKELY EVOLVE FROM INCREASING STORMS NOW
   MOVING INTO WRN IL.  MORNING SOUNDINGS INDICATE AIR MASS IS VERY
   UNSTABLE ABOVE STRONG CAPPING. LARGE SCALE ASCENT AHEAD OF LOW
   AMPLITUDE SHORTWAVE TROUGH APPROACHING THE REGION WILL SUSTAIN THIS
   ACTIVITY EWD INTO IND BY THE EARLY AFTERNOON.  SHEAR WILL SUPPORT
   ORGANIZED LINES AND SUPERCELLS.  LARGE HAIL WILL BE PRIMARY SEVERE
   THREAT...THOUGH STRONG HEATING WILL SUPPORT SURFACE-BASED
   DEVELOPMENT LATER THIS MORNING WITH INCREASED DAMAGING WIND THREAT. 
   ONCE STORMS BECOME SURFACE-BASED...ISOLATED TORNADO POTENTIAL MAY
   INCREASE AND WARRANT UPGRADE TO TORNADO WATCH ACROSS SRN/ERN
   PORTIONS OF THE WATCH EARLY THIS AFTERNOON.
   
   AVIATION...A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL SURFACE AND ALOFT
   TO 2.5 INCHES. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE WIND GUSTS TO 60
   KNOTS. A FEW CUMULONIMBI WITH MAXIMUM TOPS TO 500. MEAN STORM
   MOTION VECTOR 28035.
