   TORNADO WATCH NUMBER 458
   NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   500 AM CDT THU JUN 5 2008
   
   THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A
   TORNADO WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF 
   
          EASTERN IOWA
          NORTHWEST ILLINOIS
          SOUTHERN WISCONSIN
          LAKE MICHIGAN
   
   EFFECTIVE THIS THURSDAY MORNING FROM 500 AM UNTIL 1100 AM CDT.
   
   TORNADOES...HAIL TO 1 INCH IN DIAMETER...THUNDERSTORM WIND GUSTS
   TO 70 MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE AREAS.
   
   THE TORNADO WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 65 STATUTE
   MILES EAST AND WEST OF A LINE FROM 50 MILES EAST SOUTHEAST OF
   OTTUMWA IOWA TO 60 MILES NORTH OF MILWAUKEE WISCONSIN.  FOR A

   UPDATE (WOUS64 KWNS WOU8).
   
   REMEMBER...A TORNADO WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR
   TORNADOES AND SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH
   AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR
   THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
   AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS.
   
   OTHER WATCH INFORMATION...THIS TORNADO WATCH REPLACES TORNADO
   WATCH NUMBER 457. WATCH NUMBER 457 WILL NOT BE IN EFFECT AFTER
   500 AM CDT. 
   
   DISCUSSION...LONG-LIVED...BROADLY-ROTATING STORM CLUSTERS SHOULD
   PERSIST IN AREA OF SUSTAINED WAA ALONG AND ATOP STALLING OUTFLOW
   BOUNDARY FROM ERN IA NEWD INTO WI.  QUALITY OF MOISTURE
   INFLOW...COUPLED WITH MODERATE LOW-LVL SPEED/DIRECTIONAL
   SHEAR...SUGGESTS POTENTIAL FOR A TORNADO OR TWO...IN ADDITION TO
   LOCALLY DMGG OUTFLOW WINDS.
   
   AVIATION...TORNADOES AND A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL
   SURFACE AND ALOFT TO 1 INCH. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE WIND
   GUSTS TO 60 KNOTS. A FEW CUMULONIMBI WITH MAXIMUM TOPS TO 500.
   MEAN STORM MOTION VECTOR 24030.
