   URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED
   TORNADO WATCH NUMBER 897
   NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   350 AM CDT FRI SEP 12 2008
   
   THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A
   TORNADO WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF 
   
          SOUTHEASTERN AND SOUTH-CENTRAL LOUISIANA
          FAR SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI
          COASTAL WATERS
   
   EFFECTIVE THIS FRIDAY MORNING AND AFTERNOON FROM 350 AM UNTIL 100
   PM CDT.
   
   TORNADOES...THUNDERSTORM WIND GUSTS TO 70 MPH...AND DANGEROUS
   LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE AREAS.
   
   THE TORNADO WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 70 STATUTE
   MILES NORTH AND SOUTH OF A LINE FROM 50 MILES WEST NORTHWEST OF
   LAFAYETTE LOUISIANA TO 50 MILES SOUTHEAST OF GULFPORT
   MISSISSIPPI.  FOR A COMPLETE DEPICTION OF THE WATCH SEE THE
   ASSOCIATED WATCH OUTLINE UPDATE (WOUS64 KWNS WOU7).
   
   REMEMBER...A TORNADO WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR
   TORNADOES AND SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH
   AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR
   THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
   AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS.
   
   DISCUSSION...AND MOIST AND STRONGLY SHEARED LOW-LEVEL ENVIRONMENT
   WILL EXIST TODAY ON OUTER FRINGES OF HURRICANE IKE.  AS SUCH...A
   SUPERCELL/TORNADO THREAT WILL EXIST WITH RAINBANDS MOVING ONSHORE. 
   THIS THREAT SHOULD INCREASE LATER THIS MORNING INTO AFTERNOON AS
   DIABATIC HEATING CONTRIBUTES TO POCKETS OF STRONGER CONVECTIVE
   INSTABILITY.
   
   AVIATION...TORNADOES AND A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH EXTREME
   TURBULENCE AND SURFACE WIND GUSTS TO 60 KNOTS. A FEW CUMULONIMBI
   WITH MAXIMUM TOPS TO 500. MEAN STORM MOTION VECTOR 11045.
