   TORNADO WATCH NUMBER 65
   NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   1055 PM EST FRI MAR 2 2012
   
   THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A
   TORNADO WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF 
   
          NORTHERN AND CENTRAL GEORGIA
          WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA
          UPSTATE SOUTH CAROLINA
   
   EFFECTIVE THIS FRIDAY NIGHT AND SATURDAY MORNING FROM 1055 PM
   UNTIL 500 AM EST.
   
   TORNADOES...HAIL TO 1.5 INCHES IN DIAMETER...THUNDERSTORM WIND
   GUSTS TO 70 MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE
   AREAS.
   
   THE TORNADO WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 65 STATUTE
   MILES NORTH AND SOUTH OF A LINE FROM 5 MILES EAST SOUTHEAST OF
   CHARLOTTE NORTH CAROLINA TO 35 MILES SOUTH SOUTHWEST OF ROME
   GEORGIA.  FOR A COMPLETE DEPICTION OF THE WATCH SEE THE

   REMEMBER...A TORNADO WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR
   TORNADOES AND SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH
   AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR
   THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
   AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS.

   DISCUSSION...SCATTERED STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CONTINUE OVER
   PARTS OF NORTH GA/AL.  THESE STORMS WILL TRACK EASTWARD ACROSS THE
   WATCH AREA THROUGH THE NEXT SEVERAL HOURS.  STORMS HAVE SHOWN AN
   OVERALL DECREASE IN INTENSITY THROUGH 4Z...BUT THE PRESENCE OF THE
   SURFACE WARM FRONT AND STRONG LOW LEVEL WINDS SUGGEST A CONTINUED
   THREAT OF WIDELY SCATTERED SEVERE WEATHER...INCLUDING ISOLATED
   TORNADOES.
   
   AVIATION...TORNADOES AND A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL
   SURFACE AND ALOFT TO 1.5 INCHES. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE
   WIND GUSTS TO 60 KNOTS. A FEW CUMULONIMBI WITH MAXIMUM TOPS TO
   450. MEAN STORM MOTION VECTOR 25035.
