   SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH NUMBER 137
   NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   230 PM CDT SAT MAY 10 2014

   THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A

   * SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF 
     SOUTHWEST IOWA
     EASTERN KANSAS
     NORTHWEST AND WEST-CENTRAL MISSOURI
     FAR SOUTHEAST NEBRASKA

   * EFFECTIVE THIS SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING FROM 230 PM UNTIL
     1000 PM CDT.

   * PRIMARY THREATS INCLUDE...
     SCATTERED LARGE HAIL LIKELY WITH ISOLATED VERY LARGE HAIL EVENTS
       TO 3 INCHES IN DIAMETER POSSIBLE
     ISOLATED DAMAGING WIND GUSTS TO 70 MPH POSSIBLE
     A TORNADO OR TWO POSSIBLE

   THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 60
   STATUTE MILES EAST AND WEST OF A LINE FROM 45 MILES SOUTH OF
   CHANUTE KANSAS TO 40 MILES EAST NORTHEAST OF SHENANDOAH IOWA.

   PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

   REMEMBER...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE
   FAVORABLE FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH
   AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR
   THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
   AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAN AND OCCASIONALLY
   DO PRODUCE TORNADOES.

   &&

   DISCUSSION...RAPID TSTM DEVELOPMENT IS ANTICIPATED ALONG A DRYLINE
   AND WARM FRONT WHERE THE ENVIRONMENT HAS BECOME MODERATELY UNSTABLE.
   WIND PROFILES ACROSS THE AREA INDICATE AN ENVIRONMENT FAVORABLE FOR
   SUPERCELLS CAPABLE OF VERY LARGE HAIL. WHILE A TORNADO OR TWO IS
   POSSIBLE...GROWING T-TD SPREADS AND MARGINALLY STRONG LOW-LEVEL
   SHEAR SHOULD MITIGATE A MORE SUBSTANTIAL THREAT. SHOULD SUBSEQUENT
   OBSERVATIONS DIVERGE FROM THIS NOTION...AN UPGRADE TO A TORNADO
   WATCH MAY BE REQUIRED OVER A PORTION OF THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM
   WATCH AREA.

   AVIATION...A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL SURFACE AND ALOFT
   TO 3 INCHES. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE WIND GUSTS TO 60
   KNOTS. A FEW CUMULONIMBI WITH MAXIMUM TOPS TO 550. MEAN STORM
   MOTION VECTOR 27030.
