   SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH NUMBER 166
   NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   310 AM CDT WED MAY 11 2016

   THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A

   * SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF 
     SOUTHWESTERN IOWA
     CENTRAL THROUGH NORTHEASTERN KANSAS
     NORTHWESTERN AND EXTREME WESTERN MISSOURI
     SOUTHEASTERN NEBRASKA

   * EFFECTIVE THIS WEDNESDAY MORNING FROM 310 AM UNTIL 1000 AM CDT.

   * PRIMARY THREATS INCLUDE...
     SCATTERED LARGE HAIL AND ISOLATED VERY LARGE HAIL EVENTS TO 2
       INCHES IN DIAMETER POSSIBLE
     ISOLATED DAMAGING WIND GUSTS TO 70 MPH POSSIBLE

   SUMMARY...INCREASINGLY WELL-ORGANIZED THUNDERSTORMS OVER
   NORTH-CENTRAL KANSAS SHOULD SHIFT EAST-NORTHEASTWARD...SPREADING A
   THREAT OF LARGE HAIL AND ISOLATED DAMAGING GUSTS ACROSS MUCH OF THE
   WATCH AREA.  ISOLATED LARGE HAIL ALSO IS POSSIBLE FROM OTHER STORMS
   AROUND THE RIM OF THE WATCH THROUGH MID-MORNING.  SEE SPC MESOSCALE
   DISCUSSION 598 FOR INITIAL METEOROLOGICAL DETAILS.

   THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 100
   STATUTE MILES EITHER SIDE OF A LINE FROM 50 MILES SOUTHWEST OF
   BEATRICE NEBRASKA TO 40 MILES EAST OF SAINT JOSEPH MISSOURI.  FOR

   PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

   REMEMBER...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE
   FAVORABLE FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH
   AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR
   THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
   AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAN AND OCCASIONALLY
   DO PRODUCE TORNADOES.
