   SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH NUMBER 174
   NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   125 PM CDT FRI MAY 13 2016

   THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A

   * SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF 
     SOUTHERN IOWA
     WESTERN ILLINOIS
     EASTERN KANSAS
     NORTHERN AND WESTERN MISSOURI

   * EFFECTIVE THIS FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING FROM 125 PM UNTIL
     800 PM CDT.

   * PRIMARY THREATS INCLUDE...
     SCATTERED DAMAGING WIND GUSTS TO 70 MPH POSSIBLE
     ISOLATED LARGE HAIL EVENTS TO 1.5 INCHES IN DIAMETER POSSIBLE

   SUMMARY...A BAND OF STRONG/SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WILL CONTINUE TO
   DEVELOP AHEAD OF AN ADVANCING COLD FRONT THIS AFTERNOON.  LOCALLY
   DAMAGING WINDS AND HAIL CAN BE EXPECTED WITH STRONGER STORMS WITHIN
   THE BAND.

   THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 100
   STATUTE MILES EAST AND WEST OF A LINE FROM 40 MILES NORTHWEST OF
   BURLINGTON IOWA TO 45 MILES EAST SOUTHEAST OF WICHITA KANSAS.

   PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

   REMEMBER...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE
   FAVORABLE FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH
   AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR
   THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
   AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAN AND OCCASIONALLY
   DO PRODUCE TORNADOES.
