   SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH NUMBER 197
   NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   500 PM MDT WED MAY 28 2014

   THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A

   * SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF 
     NORTH CENTRAL AND NORTHEAST MONTANA

   * EFFECTIVE THIS WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON FROM 500 PM UNTIL MIDNIGHT
     MDT.

   * PRIMARY THREATS INCLUDE...
     WIDESPREAD LARGE HAIL LIKELY WITH ISOLATED VERY LARGE HAIL
       EVENTS TO 2.5 INCHES IN DIAMETER POSSIBLE
     SCATTERED DAMAGING WIND GUSTS TO 70 MPH POSSIBLE
     A TORNADO OR TWO POSSIBLE

   THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 75
   STATUTE MILES NORTH AND SOUTH OF A LINE FROM 80 MILES SOUTHWEST
   OF HAVRE MONTANA TO 20 MILES NORTH NORTHEAST OF SIDNEY MONTANA. 
   FOR A COMPLETE DEPICTION OF THE WATCH SEE THE ASSOCIATED WATCH

   PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

   REMEMBER...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE
   FAVORABLE FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH
   AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR
   THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
   AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAN AND OCCASIONALLY
   DO PRODUCE TORNADOES.

   DISCUSSION...ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOPING NEAR GREAT FALLS WILL
   BUILD NORTHEASTWARD THIS EVENING...WHILE OTHER STORMS FORM IN THE
   HIGH PLAINS OF NORTHEAST MT.  VERTICAL SHEAR PROFILES APPEAR
   FAVORABLE FOR SUPERCELLS CAPABLE OF VERY LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING
   WINDS.  WHILE AN ISOLATED TORNADO OR TWO IS ALSO
   POSSIBLE...RELATIVELY LARGE T/TD SPREADS AND HIGH LCL VALUES MAY
   TEND TO LIMIT THAT THREAT THROUGH MUCH OF THE EVENING.

   AVIATION...A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL SURFACE AND ALOFT
   TO 2.5 INCHES. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE WIND GUSTS TO 60
   KNOTS. A FEW CUMULONIMBI WITH MAXIMUM TOPS TO 500. MEAN STORM
   MOTION VECTOR 23030.
