   NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK

   THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A

   * SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF 
     DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
     CENTRAL AND NORTHERN MARYLAND
     NORTHERN VIRGINIA
     COASTAL WATERS

   * EFFECTIVE THIS MONDAY NIGHT FROM 720 PM UNTIL MIDNIGHT EDT.

   * PRIMARY THREATS INCLUDE...
     SCATTERED DAMAGING WIND GUSTS TO 70 MPH POSSIBLE
     ISOLATED LARGE HAIL EVENTS TO 1.5 INCHES IN DIAMETER POSSIBLE

   SUMMARY...SEVERE-THUNDERSTORM THREAT WILL EXTEND BEYOND ORIGINAL
   EXPIRATION TIME OF SPC WATCH 276 ACROSS THIS AREA...AND HAS EVOLVED
   TO BE MAINLY A DAMAGING-WIND RISK.  AS SUCH...AFFECTED COUNTIES WILL
   BE MOVED TO THIS NEW WATCH...PER COORDINATION WITH WFO STERLING VA.

   THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 35
   STATUTE MILES EAST AND WEST OF A LINE FROM 60 MILES SOUTHWEST OF
   WASHINGTON DISTRICT OF COLUM TO 35 MILES NORTH NORTHEAST OF
   BALTIMORE MARYLAND.  FOR A COMPLETE DEPICTION OF THE WATCH SEE

   PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

   FAVORABLE FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH
   AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR
   THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
   AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAN AND OCCASIONALLY
   DO PRODUCE TORNADOES.
