   SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH NUMBER 410
   NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   135 PM EDT THU JUL 10 2014

   THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A

   * SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF 
     CENTRAL AND EASTERN NORTH CAROLINA
     NORTHEAST SOUTH CAROLINA
     SOUTHEAST VIRGINIA
     COASTAL WATERS

   * EFFECTIVE THIS THURSDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING FROM 135 PM UNTIL
     900 PM EDT.

   * PRIMARY THREATS INCLUDE...
     SCATTERED DAMAGING WIND GUSTS TO 70 MPH LIKELY
     ISOLATED VERY LARGE HAIL EVENTS TO 2 INCHES IN DIAMETER POSSIBLE

   THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 50
   STATUTE MILES EITHER SIDE OF A LINE FROM 30 MILES EAST OF NORFOLK
   VIRGINIA TO 10 MILES SOUTH SOUTHWEST OF FLORENCE SOUTH CAROLINA.

   PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

   REMEMBER...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE
   FAVORABLE FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH
   AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR
   THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
   AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAN AND OCCASIONALLY
   DO PRODUCE TORNADOES.

   DISCUSSION...STORMS ARE CONTINUING TO DEVELOP AND INTENSIFY AHEAD OF
   SURFACE WIND SHIFT FROM THE CENTRAL CAROLINAS INTO SERN VA.  THE AIR
   MASS IS UNDERGOING STRONG DIABATIC HEATING/DESTABILIZATION WITH
   MLCAPE TO 2500 J/KG.  THE REGION IS ALONG THE SERN EDGE OF STRONGER
   FLOW ALOFT WITH SUFFICIENT VERTICAL SHEAR /20-30 KT/ TO PROMOTE
   ORGANIZED MULTICELL STORM STRUCTURES.  DAMAGING WIND GUSTS AND
   OCCASIONAL HAIL WILL ACCOMPANY THE STRONGEST CELLS AS THEY MOVE NEWD
   20 KT THROUGH THIS EVENING.

   AVIATION...A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL SURFACE AND ALOFT
   TO 2 INCHES. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE WIND GUSTS TO 60
   KNOTS. A FEW CUMULONIMBI WITH MAXIMUM TOPS TO 500. MEAN STORM
   MOTION VECTOR 24020.
