   NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK

   THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A

   * SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF 
     NORTHERN CONNECTICUT
     SOUTHWEST MASSACHUSETTS
     SOUTHEASTERN NEW YORK

   * EFFECTIVE THIS SUNDAY EVENING FROM 625 PM UNTIL 1100 PM EDT.

   * PRIMARY THREATS INCLUDE...
     ISOLATED DAMAGING WIND GUSTS TO 70 MPH POSSIBLE
     A TORNADO OR TWO POSSIBLE

   THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 85
   STATUTE MILES EAST AND WEST OF A LINE FROM 5 MILES EAST OF
   PITTSFIELD MASSACHUSETTS TO 10 MILES SOUTHWEST OF POUGHKEEPSIE
   NEW YORK.  FOR A COMPLETE DEPICTION OF THE WATCH SEE THE

   PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

   REMEMBER...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE
   FAVORABLE FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH
   AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR
   THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
   AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAN AND OCCASIONALLY
   DO PRODUCE TORNADOES.

   STORMS OR WEAK SUPERCELLS/ EXPECTED TO PERSIST IN ZONE OF ENHANCED
   LOW-LVL MOISTURE RETURN/SFC PRESSURE FALLS OVER THE LWR HUDSON VLY.
   GIVEN PERSISTENCE OF EXISTING STORMS...MODERATE WLY DEEP SHEAR...AND
   BACKED NEAR-SFC FLOW IN THE HUDSON AND CT RVR VLYS...POTENTIAL WILL
   EXIST FOR LOCALLY DMGG WIND AND PERHAPS A TORNADO OR TWO THROUGH
   MID-EVE.
   A SECOND WAVE OF STORMS EVOLVING OVER NRN PA OR S CNTRL NY COULD
   AFFECT WRN PARTS OF THE WATCH LATER THIS EVE.

   AVIATION...A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL SURFACE AND ALOFT
   TO 1 INCH. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE WIND GUSTS TO 60 KNOTS.
   A FEW CUMULONIMBI WITH MAXIMUM TOPS TO 450. MEAN STORM MOTION
   VECTOR 27030.
