   TORNADO WATCH NUMBER 479
   NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   335 PM CDT SUN AUG 31 2014

   THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A

   * TORNADO WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF 
     WESTERN IOWA
     NORTH CENTRAL KANSAS
     EASTERN NEBRASKA
     EXTREME SOUTHEAST SOUTH DAKOTA

   * EFFECTIVE THIS SUNDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING FROM 335 PM UNTIL
     900 PM CDT.

   * PRIMARY THREATS INCLUDE...
     A FEW TORNADOES POSSIBLE
     SCATTERED LARGE HAIL LIKELY WITH ISOLATED VERY LARGE HAIL EVENTS
       TO 2.5 INCHES IN DIAMETER POSSIBLE
     SCATTERED DAMAGING WIND GUSTS TO 70 MPH LIKELY

   THE TORNADO WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 60 STATUTE
   MILES EAST AND WEST OF A LINE FROM 25 MILES NORTH NORTHWEST OF
   SPENCER IOWA TO 45 MILES SOUTHWEST OF CONCORDIA KANSAS.  FOR A

   PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

   REMEMBER...A TORNADO WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR
   TORNADOES AND SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH
   AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR
   THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
   AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS.

   DISCUSSION...SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS ARE WILL DEVELOP DURING THE
   NEXT FEW HOURS ALONG A SURFACE BOUNDARY EXTENDING FROM NORTH CENTRAL
   KS INTO EASTERN NEB AND WESTERN IA.  PARAMETERS APPEAR FAVORABLE FOR
   A FEW SUPERCELL STORMS IN THIS REGION...CAPABLE OF VERY LARGE
   HAIL...DAMAGING WINDS...AND PERHAPS A FEW TORNADOES.

   AVIATION...TORNADOES AND A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL
   SURFACE AND ALOFT TO 2.5 INCHES. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE
   WIND GUSTS TO 60 KNOTS. A FEW CUMULONIMBI WITH MAXIMUM TOPS TO
   550. MEAN STORM MOTION VECTOR 25030.
