   SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH NUMBER 481
   NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   315 PM CDT SAT SEP 17 2016

   THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A

   * SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF 
     SOUTHEAST COLORADO
     SOUTHWEST KANSAS
     NORTHEAST NEW MEXICO
     WESTERN OKLAHOMA PANHANDLE
     WESTERN TEXAS PANHANDLE

   * EFFECTIVE THIS SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING FROM 315 PM UNTIL
     1100 PM CDT.

   * PRIMARY THREATS INCLUDE...
     SCATTERED LARGE HAIL AND ISOLATED VERY LARGE HAIL EVENTS TO 2
       INCHES IN DIAMETER POSSIBLE
     ISOLATED DAMAGING WIND GUSTS TO 70 MPH POSSIBLE
     A TORNADO OR TWO POSSIBLE

   SUMMARY...STORMS SPREADING EAST OFF THE HIGHER TERRAIN MAY EVOLVE
   INTO SUPERCELLS WITH A THREAT FOR MAINLY LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING
   WIND. AN UPSCALE GROWTH TO AN MCS IS POSSIBLE THIS EVENING OVER THE
   SOUTHERN HIGH PLAINS.

   THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 90
   STATUTE MILES EAST AND WEST OF A LINE FROM 35 MILES NORTH
   NORTHEAST OF LAMAR COLORADO TO 45 MILES SOUTHEAST OF TUCUMCARI
   NEW MEXICO.  FOR A COMPLETE DEPICTION OF THE WATCH SEE THE

   PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

   REMEMBER...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE
   FAVORABLE FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH
   AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR
   THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
   AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAN AND OCCASIONALLY
   DO PRODUCE TORNADOES.
