   SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH NUMBER 492
   NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   150 AM CDT THU SEP 4 2014

   THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A

   * SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF 
     PART OF WEST CENTRAL AND NORTHWEST MINNESOTA
     SOUTH CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST NORTH DAKOTA

   * EFFECTIVE THIS THURSDAY MORNING FROM 150 AM UNTIL 700 AM CDT.

   * PRIMARY THREATS INCLUDE...
     SCATTERED LARGE HAIL AND ISOLATED VERY LARGE HAIL EVENTS TO 2.5
       INCHES IN DIAMETER POSSIBLE
     SCATTERED DAMAGING WIND GUSTS TO 70 MPH POSSIBLE

   THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 45
   STATUTE MILES NORTH AND SOUTH OF A LINE FROM 65 MILES WEST OF
   JAMESTOWN NORTH DAKOTA TO 40 MILES EAST SOUTHEAST OF DETROIT
   LAKES MINNESOTA.  FOR A COMPLETE DEPICTION OF THE WATCH SEE THE
   ASSOCIATED WATCH OUTLINE UPDATE (WOUS64 KWNS WOU2).

   PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

   REMEMBER...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE
   FAVORABLE FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH
   AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR
   THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
   AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAN AND OCCASIONALLY
   DO PRODUCE TORNADOES.

   OTHER WATCH INFORMATION...THIS SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH REPLACES
   SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH NUMBER 490. WATCH NUMBER 490 WILL NOT
   BE IN EFFECT AFTER 150 AM CDT. 

   DISCUSSION...DISCRETE SUPERCELLS IN CENTRAL ND MAY PERSIST FOR
   ANOTHER 2-3 HOURS...WHILE NEW STORMS DEVELOP IN A ZONE OF FOCUSED
   WARM ADVECTION/ASCENT ACROSS SE ND.  THESE ONGOING STORMS WILL BE
   CAPABLE OF PRODUCING ISOLATED VERY LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING
   WINDS...DESPITE BEING SLIGHT ELEVATED.  SOME UPSCALE GROWTH IS
   LIKELY THROUGH THE EARLY MORNING HOURS FROM ND INTO MN...WITH THE
   POTENTIAL FOR A SMALL BOWING MCS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING DAMAGING WINDS
   AND LARGE HAIL.

   AVIATION...A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL SURFACE AND ALOFT
   TO 2.5 INCHES. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE WIND GUSTS TO 60
   KNOTS. A FEW CUMULONIMBI WITH MAXIMUM TOPS TO 500. MEAN STORM
   MOTION VECTOR 28030.
