   SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH NUMBER 564
   NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   425 PM EST WED DEC 24 2014

   THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A

   * SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF 
     CENTRAL AND EASTERN OHIO
     WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA
     WESTERN AND NORTHERN WEST VIRGINIA
     LAKE ERIE

   * EFFECTIVE THIS WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING FROM 425 PM
     UNTIL 1000 PM EST.

   * PRIMARY THREATS INCLUDE...
     SCATTERED DAMAGING WIND GUSTS TO 70 MPH POSSIBLE

   THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 65
   STATUTE MILES EAST AND WEST OF A LINE FROM 30 MILES SOUTH
   SOUTHWEST OF ATHENS OHIO TO 55 MILES NORTH NORTHWEST OF
   YOUNGSTOWN OHIO.  FOR A COMPLETE DEPICTION OF THE WATCH SEE THE

   PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

   REMEMBER...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE
   FAVORABLE FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH
   AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR
   THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
   AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAN AND OCCASIONALLY
   DO PRODUCE TORNADOES.

   DISCUSSION...NARROW...LOW-TOPPED LINE OF CONVECTION/STORMS NOW
   FORMING ALONG INTENSIFYING COLD FRONT IN WRN OH EXPECTED TO
   STRENGTHEN AS THE FRONT ACCELERATES ENE BENEATH INTENSIFYING SSWLY
   LOW-TO MID-TROPOSPHERIC FLOW/ASCENT AHEAD OF IND SHORTWAVE TROUGH.
   BUOYANCY WILL REMAIN MODEST...BUT ADEQUATE FOR SUSTAINED UPDRAFTS
   GIVEN FOCUSED NATURE OF UPLIFT ALONG FRONT. BUOYANCY ALSO WILL BE
   SOMEWHAT AUGMENTED BY DOWNSLOPE-INDUCED LOW-LVL WARM POCKET IN WRN
   WV/ERN OH. SPORADIC LOCALLY DMGG SFC GUSTS APPEAR POSSIBLE AS SFC
   PRESSURE RISE-FALL COUPLET FURTHER TIGHTENS WITH STRENGTHENING OF
   FRONT.

   AVIATION...A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL SURFACE AND ALOFT
   TO 0.5 INCH. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE WIND GUSTS TO 60
   KNOTS. A FEW CUMULONIMBI WITH MAXIMUM TOPS TO 250. MEAN STORM
   MOTION VECTOR 21050.
