MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 0903
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
1044 PM CDT FRI MAY 25 2012
AREAS AFFECTED...CENTRAL KS
CONCERNING...TORNADO WATCH 298...
VALID 260344Z - 260445Z
THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR TORNADO WATCH 298 CONTINUES.
SUMMARY...THREAT FOR TORNADOES CONTINUES WITH A LARGE SUPERCELL
STORM OVER NERN RUSH COUNTY.
DISCUSSION...RADAR LOOP OVER THE PAST HOUR HAS REVEALED A GENERAL
DOWNWARD TREND IN CONVECTION ACROSS TORNADO WATCH 298...THOUGH TWO
SUPERCELLS -- ONE OF WHICH REMAINS VERY INTENSE -- CONTINUE ACROSS
CENTRAL KS ATTM. THIS STRONGEST CELL -- AFFECTING MAINLY NERN RUSH
AND SERN ELLIS COUNTY ATTM -- HAS GENERATED NUMEROUS TORNADO REPORTS
OVER THE PAST HOUR...AND LATEST REPORTS SUGGEST THAT THE STORM
REMAINS TORNADIC.
AS THE BOUNDARY LAYER CONTINUES TO COOL AND CAPPING INCREASES OVER
THE NEXT COUPLE OF HOURS...EXPECT THE OVERALL/GENERAL DECREASING
TREND TO CONTINUE WITH THE ONGOING CONVECTION. FOR THE NEXT HOUR OR
SO HOWEVER...THREAT FOR TORNADOES AND/OR OTHER SUBSTANTIAL SEVERE
WEATHER CONTINUES ACROSS THIS SMALL PORTION OF CENTRAL KS.
