   MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 2053
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0742 PM CST WED DEC 23 2015

   AREAS AFFECTED...ERN KY...WRN WV...SCNTRL OH

   CONCERNING...SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 563...565...

   VALID 240142Z - 240345Z

THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH
   563...565...CONTINUES.

SUMMARY...A SEVERE THREAT WILL CONTINUE OVER THE NEXT FEW HOURS AS A
LINE OF STORMS MOVE EWD ACROSS SCNTRL OH...ERN KY AND EVENTUALLY
INTO FAR WRN WV. THE SEVERE THREAT IS EXPECTED TO BECOME MORE
ISOLATED LATE THIS EVENING AND WW ISSUANCE APPEARS UNLIKELY AS FAR
   EAST AS WV.

DISCUSSION...LATEST SFC ANALYSIS SHOWS A NARROW CORRIDOR OF
LOW-LEVEL MOISTURE EXTENDING NNEWD ACROSS CNTRL KY INTO SRN OH ALONG
WHICH SFC DEWPOINTS ARE IN THE MID TO UPPER 50S F. A NEARLY
CONTINUOUS LINE OF STORMS IS ONGOING ALONG THE WRN EDGE OF THE MOIST
CORRIDOR FROM JUST TO THE EAST OF CINCINNATI OH SWWD TO NEAR BOWLING
GREEN KY. THE LINE IS BEING SUPPORTED BY STRONG LARGE-SCALE ASCENT
ASSOCIATED WITH A SHORTWAVE TROUGH MOVING ACROSS THE OH
VALLEY...EVIDENT ON WATER VAPOR IMAGERY. THE LINE IS NEAR THE AXIS
OF A 45 TO 60 KT LOW-LEVEL JET AND IS ORIENTED PARALLEL TO AN 80 TO
100 KT MID-LEVEL JET OVER THE MID MS AND OH VALLEYS. THESE FEATURES
ARE CREATING VERY STRONG DEEP-LAYER SHEAR PROFILES WITH THE
CINCINNATI WSR-88D VWP SHOWING 80 KT OF 0-6 KM SHEAR AND STRONG
SPEED SHEAR IN THE BOUNDARY LAYER. THIS SHOULD CONTINUE TO SUPPORT A
WIND DAMAGE THREAT WITH THE LINE AS IT MOVES EWD ACROSS SRN OH AND
ERN KY THIS EVENING. THE WIND DAMAGE THREAT SHOULD BECOME MORE
ISOLATED LATE EVENING AS THE LINE MOVES INTO PARTS OF THE CNTRL
   APPALACHIAN FOOTHILLS.
