Mesoscale Discussion 0023
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
1040 PM CST Fri Jan 10 2020
Areas affected...southeast Missouri/Arkansas/northeast
Texas/northwest Louisiana
Concerning...Tornado Watch 5...
Valid 110440Z - 110645Z
The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 5 continues.
SUMMARY...Severe risk continues -- along with potential for a couple
of brief tornadoes.
DISCUSSION...Radar loop depicts a solid line of convection moving
eastward across WW 005, with embedded LEWPs/bows/rotating updrafts.
The overall kinematic environment remains quite favorable for
continued severe risk. As such, with sufficient instability within
the warm sector -- particularly with southward extent across
Arkansas and into the Arklatex -- severe risk will likely continue
over the next few hours.
While much of the convection remains well-contained within the
watch, a bowing segment of the line near the Arkansas/Missouri
border moving east-northeast at 45 kt continues to rapidly approach
the northeast corner of the watch. Though the thermodynamic
environment is much less favorable than areas farther south, some
risk for a continuation of isolated wind risk into the Mid
Mississippi Valley warrants at least some consideration for
downstream WW issuance.
