   Mesoscale Discussion 0028
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
   0431 AM CST Sat Jan 11 2020

   Areas affected...West-Central/Southwest MS...Eastern/Southern LA

   Concerning...Tornado Watch 8...9...

   Valid 111031Z - 111130Z

The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 8, 9 continues.

SUMMARY...The threat for strong wind gusts and QLCS tornadoes
continues across west-central/southwest MS and eastern/south-central
LA. An additional Tornado Watch will likely be needed across
southeast LA and far southwest MS by 12Z.

DISCUSSION...Expansive convection line extending from southern IL
southwestward into southern LA will continue to gradually move
eastward over the next few hours. Trends over the past few hours
have shown occasional embedded circulations in areas where the line
locally surges forward in response to brief increases in downdraft
intensity. Thus far, these circulations have been short-lived. That
overall trend is expected to persist for at least the next few hours
has the line continues to move within a moderately unstable and very
strongly sheared environment. The primary severe threat is strong
wind gusts but embedded QLCS tornadoes are also possible.

The threat for tornadoes is expected to extend eastward of Tornado
Watch 8 and another Tornado Watch will likely be needed across
southern LA and far southwest MS by 12Z.
