   Mesoscale Discussion 0103
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
   1257 AM CST Fri Feb 07 2020

   Areas affected...south Florida

   Concerning...Severe potential...Watch unlikely

   Valid 070657Z - 070900Z

   Probability of Watch Issuance...5 percent

SUMMARY...A line of storms may affect the Keys and south Florida
through early morning, with localized strong or marginally severe
   wind gusts.

DISCUSSION...A line of storms extends from near Cape Canaveral to
Fort Myers as of 07Z, and will continue rapidly eastward. Wind gusts
have consistently been measured in the 35-40 kt range, with isolated
reports to 45 kt farther north. Convergence along the cold front may
sustain these storms through 12Z, but height falls will remain
focused north toward the Mid Atlantic. As a result, little cooling
aloft will occur over south Florida. 00Z soundings show poor lapse
rates ahead of the front, but boundary-layer dewpoints near 70 F
will contribute to around 1000 J/kg MUCAPE. The strongest storms
within the line may harness the 30-50 kt flow just off the surface,
but even these winds will weaken as they gradually veer.
