   Mesoscale Discussion 0112
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
   0639 AM CST Sun Feb 09 2020

   Areas affected...Southern MN...West-Central/Central/Southwest WI

   Concerning...Heavy snow

   Valid 091239Z - 091645Z

SUMMARY...Snowfall rates from 1" to 2" per hour will continue across
southern MN, expanding into more of western/southwest WI over the
   next few hours.

DISCUSSION...Recent regional radar imagery shows a band of heavy
snowfall across southern MN southeastward into west-central WI.
   Low-level jet and resulting warm-air advection/frontogenesis
responsible for this band are expected to continue progressing
eastward this morning. As result, this band of heavy snowfall is
also expected to shift eastward, bringing the heavy snowfall ongoing
across southern MN into more of west-central, central, and southwest
   WI.

Based on recent mesoanalysis, 850 mb frontogenesis is currently
maximized from south-central into southeast MN, where the 850 mb
winds are strongest. This area corresponds well to the METAR reports
of heavy snow over the last 30 minutes. Snowfall rates of 1" per
hour will be common throughout this entire band, with snowfall rates
closer to 2" per hour where frontogenesis is maximized.
