   Mesoscale Discussion 0152
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
   0420 AM CST Wed Mar 04 2020

Areas affected...central into northeast Texas...western Louisiana

   Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 40...

   Valid 041020Z - 041215Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 40
   continues.

SUMMARY...An increase in storm coverage is expected through early
morning, with hail or locally strong wind gusts possible.

DISCUSSION...Total PWAT continues to increase, with value of 1.50"
up to I-20, and 1.75" around Houston. This is contributing to around
1000-1500 J/kg MUCAPE from San Antonio into central LA. Meanwhile,
strong southwest winds aloft remain over the area ahead of the upper
trough. A small line of storms continues to approach I-35 near SAT,
with southern end limited by capping aloft. Recently, a storm has
formed near LFK, suggesting the moist boundary layer has breached
the capping layer. The most likely region for storms to form will be
north of a SAT to LFK line, into the cooler surface air, where lift
from warm advection is maximized. Favorable deep-layer shear will
support hail in some of the storms, and strong wind gusts will be
   possible with any bowing storms.
