Mesoscale Discussion 0191
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
1111 PM CDT Tue Mar 17 2020
Areas affected...West-central and North-central Texas
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 53...
Valid 180411Z - 180445Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 53
continues.
SUMMARY...An isolated severe threat will likely gradually diminish
across west-central and north-central Texas over the next hour or
two. Wind damage and hail will be the primary threats. New weather
watch issuance is not expected.
DISCUSSION...A couple line segments are currently ongoing from east
of Midland to west of Fort Worth. The latter is located along the
northern edge of instability near and to the north of a
quasi-stationary front. The southern part of the line may be
surface-based with a isolated wind damage threat but to the north of
the front, the storms should be elevated. Further southwest, the
storms to the east of Midland are located near a surface trough.
These storms should become increasingly elevated as surface
temperatures cool late this evening. Overall, a gradual downtrend is
expected with convection across the southern Plains. Weather Watch
53 may be allowed to expire but a local extension in time can not be
ruled out.
