Mesoscale Discussion 0202
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0333 AM CDT Thu Mar 19 2020
Areas affected...portions of central Texas
Concerning...Tornado Watch 55...
Valid 190833Z - 191030Z
The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 55 continues.
SUMMARY...Local severe risk -- including the potential for a couple
of tornadoes -- continues over the WW area.
DISCUSSION...Latest radar loop covering the WW #55 area indicates a
persistent supercell now moving into southwestern Jack County, and a
second organized/rotating storm crossing Edwards County at this
time. The northern (Jack County) storm has a history of producing
tornadoes farther to the southwest, and while moving into a more
capped/less unstable environment, the storm remains capable of
producing severe weather. Meanwhile, the southern cell appears
likely to be producing large hail, though stronger capping exists
downstream of this storm as well, which may contribute to a
continued/gradual weakening trend as noted in recent volume scans.
Overall however, as ascent continues to overspread this region, risk
for additional severe storm development persists. With watch
expiration scheduled for 10z, new WW will need to be considered
across parts of this region.
