Mesoscale Discussion 0276
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
1120 AM CDT Tue Mar 31 2020
Areas affected...parts of east-central and northestern GA and into
SC
Concerning...Severe potential...Watch possible
Valid 311620Z - 311745Z
Probability of Watch Issuance...40 percent
SUMMARY...Risk for locally gusty/damaging winds is expected to
increase as storms move rapidly eastward across northern GA. A
severe thunderstorm watch is being considered.
DISCUSSION...Despite a dearth of instability, a coherent, arcing
band of storms is moving rapidly eastward across the northern half
of Georgia at 50 to 55 kt. With very strong flow aloft
(west-southwesterlies near 50 kt at 3km), expect the rapid storm
movement to continue to contribute to areas of local wind damage
with the low-topped band of convection, despite the weakly buoyant
environment across the area, near and north of the west-to-east warm
front.
