   Mesoscale Discussion 0323
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
   0236 AM CDT Thu Apr 09 2020

Areas affected...Portions of the eastern WV
   Panhandle...western/central VA...and far northwestern NC

   Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 95...

   Valid 090736Z - 090900Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 95
   continues.

SUMMARY...Damaging wind gusts will remain possible with a line of
   storms moving eastward.

DISCUSSION...The reflectivity structure to a well organized bow that
is moving across the Appalachians has recently weakened as it
encounters a less unstable airmass across western VA. Still, strong
west-southwesterly flow (around 40-50 kt at 1 km AGL) is being
estimated by recent VWPs from KFCX. Damaging wind gusts should
remain the primary threat with the now broken line of storms given
the potential for convective downdrafts to penetrate the
near-surface stable layer. This damaging wind potential may be
better realized across the southern portions of the line in
southwestern VA and vicinity where some destabilization just off the
surface is occurring (MUCAPE up to 500-1000 J/kg). Depending on
radar trends, some eastward expansion of Severe Thunderstorm Watch
95 into parts of northern/central VA is possible.
