Mesoscale Discussion 0326
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0140 PM CDT Thu Apr 09 2020
Areas affected...Southern New England and the Mid-Atlantic Coast
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 96...
Valid 091840Z - 091945Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 96
continues.
SUMMARY...Local severe risk -- mainly in the form of locally
damaging winds -- continues to move offshore, but will linger over
southern New England and Long Island.
DISCUSSION...Latest radar loop shows storms moving off the New
Jersey coast at this time, with threat rapidly ending here.
Meanwhile, the band of stronger convection is crossing southern New
England and Long Island, where instability decreases with eastward
extent.
Still, with strong flow aloft and rapid storm motions, locally
damaging winds will remain possible. Several gusts into the low-end
severe range (around 50 kt) have been reported, and a few additional
gusts near severe levels will remain possible over the next hour or
so.
