Mesoscale Discussion 0359
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0353 PM CDT Sun Apr 12 2020
Areas affected...Portions of southeastern MS and southwestern AL
Concerning...Severe potential...Tornado Watch likely
Valid 122053Z - 122230Z
Probability of Watch Issuance...95 percent
SUMMARY...Severe threat will continue to increase, and a watch will
likely be needed in the next hour.
DISCUSSION...The airmass across southeastern MS and southwestern AL
continues to destabilize this afternoon. A couple of supercells have
recently strengthened across far south-central MS. Current
expectations are for these storms to maintain their intensity as
they move eastward through the remainder of the afternoon. All
severe hazards appear possible, with tornadoes a concern given
strong low-level shear and a favorable storm mode present.
Therefore, a tornado watch will likely be needed across parts of
southeastern MS into southwestern AL in the next hour.
