Mesoscale Discussion 0441
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0424 PM CDT Wed Apr 22 2020
Areas affected...Southeast TX...Central LA
Concerning...Tornado Watch 133...
Valid 222124Z - 222300Z
The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 133 continues.
SUMMARY...Conditions will remain favorable for supercells capable of
all severe hazards, including tornadoes. A new Tornado Watch will be
issued over portions of the region by 2145Z to replace Tornado Watch
133.
DISCUSSION...Recent surface analysis places a warm front from
southeast of PRX (in northeast TX) southeastward across central and
southern LA. Also apparent in surface data is an axis of confluence
within the warm sector over southeast TX. Thunderstorms have
developed along this axis as well along and north of the warm front.
Conditions are expected to remain favorable continued development
along this axis as well as farther east into the open warm sector.
VAD profiles from POE and LCH both show large and veering low-level
winds with 0-1 km SRH around 350-400 m2/s2. These low-level profiles
should only improve over time as the low-level jet increases.
Overall environment supports supercells with the potential for all
severe hazards, including tornadoes. As such, Tornado Watch 133,
which expires at 22Z, will be replaced with a new Tornado Watch by
2145Z.
