   Areas affected...North-central Florida

   Concerning...Tornado Watch 144...

   Valid 240759Z - 241000Z

The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 144 continues.

SUMMARY...A tornado and wind-damage threat is likely to continue
across north-central Florida over the next several hours. The threat
should be contained with WW 144.

DISCUSSION...The latest surface analysis shows a very moist airmass
in place across the central and north-central Florida Peninsula.
Surface dewpoints are generally in the lower 70s F to the south of a
band of strong thunderstorms oriented from southwest to northeast
just to the west of the Ocala vicinity. This band is located along
the leading edge of a zone of strong large-scale ascent associated
with a shortwave trough evident on water vapor imagery. Latest RAP
analysis across central and western Florida shows moderate
instability in place with MLCAPE estimated in the 2000 to 3500 J/kg
range. In addition, the Tampa Bay WSR-88D VWP shows 0-6 km shear of
60 kt, 0-3 km shear near 600 m2/s2 with a looping hodograph and
substantial speed shear in the boundary layer. This environment will
continue to support supercell development tonight. Although much of
the convection will remain linear, supercells will be most likely on
the southern side of the line segments where cells have tended to
remain more discrete. A brief tornado could occur with supercells
that develop. Wind damage will be possible with supercells but will
also along the leading edge of the stronger line segments.
