Mesoscale Discussion 0473
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0743 PM CDT Fri Apr 24 2020
Areas affected...portions of east/southeast Texas into northern and
central Louisiana
Concerning...Severe potential...Watch possible
Valid 250043Z - 250145Z
Probability of Watch Issuance...60 percent
SUMMARY...Risk for large hail and locally damaging winds will
continue to increase over parts of east/southeast Texas and into
northern and central Louisiana. A new WW may be needed.
DISCUSSION...Latest visible satellite imagery shows storms
developing southwestward along the east Texas cold front -- with new
development near and just south of the southern edge of Tornado
Watch 146. Meanwhile, couple of new updrafts are initiating over
northern Louisiana, and with time, expect the ongoing east Texas
storms to spread eastward into/across northern and central
Louisiana.
Evening RAOBs and RAP-based objective analysis show ample
instability (mixed-layer CAPE 1000 to 1500 J/kg), and shear
favorable for supercells. As such, potential for large hail and
damaging winds -- and possibly a tornado -- should evolve and
persist well into the evening, especially over parts of Louisiana
east of Tornado Watch 146.
