Mesoscale Discussion 0474
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0926 PM CDT Fri Apr 24 2020
Areas affected...northeast Texas/northwestern Louisiana
Concerning...Tornado Watch 146...
Valid 250226Z - 250400Z
The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 146 continues.
SUMMARY...Severe risk -- including potential for destructive winds
and very large hail -- continues across parts of northeast Texas and
adjacent northwestern Louisiana.
DISCUSSION...Latest radar loop shows several supercell storms over
the northwestern Louisiana vicinity, with one large cell crossing
the Cass/Marion County Texas and Caddo County Louisiana border area
suggestive of destructive wind gust potential, along with very large
hail. Inbound velocities per the KSHV WSR-88D in the RFD region of
this cell are in the 60 to 70 kt range at roughly 1500 feet AGL, and
so wind gusts well in excess of 60 MPH are expected.
With time, expect continued evolution toward damaging wind potential
-- including a possible bow echo evolution -- as storms move across
northwestern Louisiana and eventually into WW 147.
