Mesoscale Discussion 0475
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
1017 PM CDT Fri Apr 24 2020
Areas affected...Arkansas/northern Louisiana
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 147...
Valid 250317Z - 250515Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 147
continues.
SUMMARY...Severe risk -- increasingly in the form of locally
damaging winds -- continues.
DISCUSSION...Several clusters of strong/severe storms continue
moving east-southeastward across Arkansas and northern/central
Louisiana. While storms across Arkansas continue to gradually
evolve into a cohesive band, northern Louisiana convection has
maintained a more persistently cellular structure thus far. Still,
expect upscale growth into clusters/bands to occur across this
region as well, over the next 1-2 hours.
At this time, the most intense storm has passed just northeast of
Shreveport, where large hail and damaging winds are indicated by
radar. With time, storms will approach the current eastern bounds
of the watch into central Louisiana and also across northern
Arkansas. However, limited and decreasing buoyancy with eastern
extent may preclude the need for new WW issuance east of the watch.
