Mesoscale Discussion 0533
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0344 PM CDT Mon May 04 2020
Areas affected...Portions of southeastern MO...far northeastern
AR...and western TN
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 162...164...
Valid 042044Z - 042145Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 162, 164
continues.
SUMMARY...The greatest threat for damaging winds and large hail
should focus over parts of southeastern Missouri, far northeastern
Arkansas, and western Tennessee over the next hour.
DISCUSSION...A long lived but small bowing cluster will continue
moving quickly into southeastern MO this afternoon. Although it
resides to the north of a surface front, it should still be capable
of producing occasional damaging wind gusts given its well organized
nature and history of severe wind reports. This cluster should
eventually encounter greater low-level moisture and related MLCAPE
near the MO/AR border, and strengthening may occur, along with an
increased threat for severe/damaging wind gusts. Farther south
across far northeastern AR into the vicinity of the Memphis TN metro
area, a lone supercell will likely remain capable of producing
isolated large hail and strong/gusty winds in the short term. There
may also be a non-zero chance for a tornado with this storm as it
moves east-southeastward along a surface front, although low-level
winds remain fairly weak this afternoon.
