Mesoscale Discussion 0541
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
1154 PM CDT Mon May 04 2020
Areas affected...parts of west central and into central Arkansas
Concerning...Severe potential...Watch unlikely
Valid 050454Z - 050700Z
Probability of Watch Issuance...5 percent
SUMMARY...Local/limited severe risk may persist for another couple
of hours across portions of west-central and central Arkansas.
DISCUSSION...Latest radar loop shows a cluster of strong/locally
severe storms moving east-southeastward across west-central
Arkansas, with a few stronger storms to approach the Little Rock
area within the hour. Though capping was evident on the 05/00Z LZK
RAOB, warm-advection-induced ascent associated with a 40 kt
west-southwesterly low-level jet is helping to sustain the
convection.
While the storms are expected to gradually weaken over the next
couple of hours, marginally severe hail and locally strong/gusty
winds will remain possible with stronger storms, possibly spreading
into the Little Rock area. Given the limited/local risk however, a
new WW will not be required.
