Areas affected...the southern half of Oklahoma

   Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 171...173...

   Valid 080622Z - 080815Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 171, 173
   continues.

SUMMARY...Risk for damaging winds will continue spreading
southeastward across south-central and southeastern Oklahoma over
   the next couple of hours.

DISCUSSION...The latest radar loop shows an strengthening, bowing
convective cluster moving southeastward across southwestern Oklahoma
at 50 kt, while other, smaller bowing clusters organize within the
pre-existing convective band over central Oklahoma.

Ahead of the convection, a zone of 1000 J/kg mixed-layer CAPE is
indicated by RUC-based objective analyses, which should support a
continuation of robust convection over the next few hours.
Convective organization is being aided by a wind profile that veers
and increases with height from southeasterly at 10 to 20 kt at the
surface, to west-northwesterly at 50 kt at mid levels. This
kinematic environment is supporting the fast, southeasterly storm
motion, along with strong/potentially damaging outflow winds --
including a recent gust of 62 MPH at Ft. Cobb, OK. Expect the risk
for damaging winds -- and some hail -- to continue as convection
crosses the southern half of Oklahoma over the next few hours.
