   Mesoscale Discussion 0558
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
   0930 AM CDT Fri May 08 2020

   Areas affected...mch of southern Louisiana...east Texas...southern
   Mississippi

   Concerning...Severe potential...Watch possible

   Valid 081430Z - 081630Z

   Probability of Watch Issuance...60 percent

SUMMARY...Storms are expected to gradually increase in intensity
throughout the day, with areas of damaging winds or marginal hail
   possible.

DISCUSSION...Several bows/clusters stretch from northeast TX across
LA and into southwest MS, with outflows generally surging south.
Morning soundings show capped and only weakly unstable air over
southeast LA into MS, with strong instability and lapse rates aloft
over TX. Given moderate to strong west/southwest flow aloft with 50
kt at 850 mb, the air mass ahead of these storms will continue to
destabilize and spread east. Moderate mean wind speeds oriented
along the outflow/front orientation may lead to strengthening bows
capable of damaging wind gusts. Steep midlevel lapse rates may
further sustain strong updrafts with marginally severe hail as well.
