Mesoscale Discussion 0559
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0247 PM CDT Fri May 08 2020
Areas affected...the Texas/Louisiana border region eastward across
Louisiana
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 175...
Valid 081947Z - 082145Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 175
continues.
SUMMARY...A corridor of damaging wind potential is developing, with
a brief tornado possible.
DISCUSSION...Storms have increased in intensity with signs of
surging outflows. In addition, brief areas of rotation have been
noted. The outflow boundary extends roughly from Landry and
Evangeline parishes westward into southern Newton and Jasper
counties in TX, and it is in this corridor that storms have become
fully surface based, with inflections forming along the boundary.
Storms with south-of-east motions will continue to pose the greatest
severe wind threat. Effective SRH near 200 m2/s2 may prove
sufficient for a brief tornado this afternoon where the more robust
storms intersect the outflow boundary.
