Mesoscale Discussion 0562
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0316 PM CDT Sun May 10 2020
Areas affected...central and eastern Ohio
Concerning...Severe potential...Watch unlikely
Valid 102016Z - 102215Z
Probability of Watch Issuance...20 percent
SUMMARY...A line of shallow storms will continue to produce strong
to locally severe wind gusts across much of Ohio this afternoon.
DISCUSSION...Several stations have reported wind gusts near 40kt,
with isolated 50 kt gusts this afternoon with a line of shallow
thunderstorms. As of 20Z, visible satellite showed heating ahead of
the line over central OH, and this is also where 2-hr pressure falls
around 3 mb exist (near Columbus). Moisture content is minimal with
dewpoints in the upper 30s F, but sufficient to support storms given
very cold temperatures aloft. Passage of the line over multiple
observing sites indicates 10-15 kt downdraft augmentation compared
to post-frontal westerlies.
