Mesoscale Discussion 0571
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
1039 PM CDT Mon May 11 2020
Areas affected...Parts of the Texas Panhandle/South Plains into
northwest Texas
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 177...
Valid 120339Z - 120515Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 177
continues.
SUMMARY...Though small hail and gusty winds remain possible with
thunderstorm activity spreading southeastward across the region
through Midnight-1 AM CDT, severe weather potential, in general,
appears to be diminishing. A new severe weather watch is not
expected.
DISCUSSION...Southerly low-level jet intensification continues
across parts of the Texas South Plains and will likely peak in the
05-06Z time frame, and there has been a gradual consolidation of
convection spreading into areas near and southwest of Childress.
However, based on latest radar imagery, updraft intensities are
generally now on the wane, likely due to progressively less unstable
inflow, and these trends probably will continue. There has been
sufficient weakening that a new severe weather watch is not
anticipated, but lingering stronger convection might still be
capable of producing occasional small hail and gusty winds while
spreading into western portions of north Texas/the Texas Big Country
during the next few hours.
