   Mesoscale Discussion 0603
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
   0358 PM CDT Fri May 15 2020

   Areas affected...Central New York...extreme northeast
   Pennsylvania...southern Vermont...southern New Hampshire...western
   into central Massachussetts

   Concerning...Tornado Watch 187...

   Valid 152058Z - 152230Z

The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 187 continues.

SUMMARY...Severe threat is expected to continue for several more
hours with thunderstorms ahead of the cold front across Tornado
Watch 0187. Enhanced lift along the warm front may promote longer
lived linear clusters capable of supporting a relatively higher
concentration of damaging gusts and perhaps a tornado.

DISCUSSION...Over the last couple of hours, KTYX and KBGM WSR-88D
radar data have indicated the development of organized linear
clusters across parts of central New York, with a history of
damaging gusts. These clusters are currently traversing a warm
front, where enhanced low-level shear may promote transient
low-level rotation (as recently observed in Hamilton/Herkimer
Counties in NY), and a brief tornado risk. A slightly broader region
of concentrated damaging gusts is also likely given linear segments
glancing an axis of steeper low-level lapse rates.
