NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
   1144 PM CDT Fri May 15 2020

   Areas affected...East-central Texas...Texas Coastal Plains

   Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 189...

   Valid 160444Z - 160645Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 189
   continues.

SUMMARY...A severe threat is likely to continue from east-central
Texas southward onto the Texas Coastal Plains for several more
hours. Wind damage and isolated large hail will be the primary
   threats.

DISCUSSION...A very large linear MCS is currently ongoing from the
vicinity of Fort Worth southward along the I-35 corridor to the
Austin and San Antonio areas. Surface dewpoints ahead of the
squall-line are in the 60s F in east-central Texas and in the lower
70s in the middle Texas Coastal Plains. The very moist airmass is
contributing to an axis of moderate to strong instability located
along and just ahead of the linear MCS. The RAP is estimating MLCAPE
in the 2000 to 3500 J/kg range. This combined with steep mid-level
lapse rates near 8.0 C/km is creating a thermodynamic environment
favorable for severe storms. Wind damage will be possible with
bowing segments along the leading edge of the line. Hail may also
occur with the stronger cells embedded in the line. The severe
threat is expected to persist for several more hours as it moves
across the Texas Coastal Plains during the overnight period.
