Mesoscale Discussion 0615
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0531 PM CDT Sat May 16 2020
Areas affected...the greater Arklatex region
Concerning...Tornado Watch 191...
Valid 162231Z - 162330Z
The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 191 continues.
SUMMARY...A tornado threat will continue across the greater Arklatex
region as storms continues to progress northward into southeast
Oklahoma and southwest Arkansas.
DISCUSSION...Several low-topped, semi-discrete supercells continue
across the Arklatex region as a warm front lifts north into
southeast Oklahoma and southwest AR. A few tornadoes have been
reported from these supercells, and with 100-200 m2/s2 of effective
SRH in place along and ahead of the warm front, the tornado threat
will continue for the next 1-2 hours. A gradual increase in storm
interactions across southeast OK, new, more discrete storm
development further east towards southern AR, and an expected
eastward shift in the low-level jet may lead to an eastward
transition in the zone of greatest tornado threat through the
evening hours.
